My students need a listening center that allows everyone an opportunity to participate in group activities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine what it would be like if every little sound or movement changed your focus.
Our classroom is a life skills classroom.
We are made up of 9th through 12th grade students with varying disabilities. One thing all of the students share is a short attention span. Every sound in the room can distract one of them and cause a need for refocusing which in turn causes more distractions for the rest of the class.
My Project
The benefits of a listening center for our classroom will be many. A listening center will allow six students at a time to listen to audio stories or lessons through an individual headset. The headsets will block out all other distracting sounds and will allow the student to remain focused on the content they are listening to. The listening center will also be used for the students to listen to calming music and sounds when they become frustrated.
Having this listening center in our classroom will benefit many students.
There are currently 22 students in the classroom that will have access to the listening center throughout their day. For any student with a disability having a place they can go to and unwind is crucial to their educational experience.
More than half of students from low‑income households
