Learning and Listening: Flexible Understanding

My students need flexible seating options when they are working at listening centers and during small group math and science centers.

My Students

I began teaching at my school 15 years ago, and I can't imagine teaching anywhere else. Our students are a diverse mixture of different cultures, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds, ranging from low to middle income. One thing they all have in common is a desire to learn, explore, and discover new things. In order to help my students access these discoveries, I'm hoping to expand the materials in my classroom that will allow the students to be able to focus and learn in various methods. I want to optimize their personal learning styles in a way that allows for flexibility as well sly as understanding. Through both group and individual work, students will be able to use the listening materials, flexible seating materials, and learning manipulative to improve their abilities to learn independently and as a class.

My Project

My students love engaging, hands on learning that they can access with their classmates. If my project is funded, my students will be able to access fun and engaging literature through the use of small group listening centers. I will be able to use the cd/tape player requested for my project to allow students in small groups to listen to stories based on a variety of topics, ranging from fairy tales, to real life hero’s, to science concepts like animals and their life cycles. They will also participate in enjoyable math games and science manipulative science that will focus on core and STEM based standards.

My students love to learn, but need various meathods and materials to help them access this learning.

They will be able to have the flexibility of seating with the colorful cushions while working with these materials that will help them with focus and understanding.
