Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school with students from second to sixth grade. My students are from the inner city and mostly English language learners. They are hardworking, self-motivated young people who are eager to be lifelong learners.
The school's philosophy focuses on leadership skills, with an emphasis on being a critical thinker, scholarly and use 21st century skills when working in and outside of the classroom.
My scholars want to be the first in their families to attend an institution of higher learning.
My Project
This hands-on project brings the fun of board games and reinforces concepts taught in class. Students will challenge each other and at the same time apply what they learn from their Social Studies class.
More complex games require students to think about not just their turn now, but what their long-term strategy is to win the game.
The trivia based card game and brainteaser puzzle promotes critical thinking and implementation of strategies. The pens will help students with taking notes during class, as they look to organize their notes with different color pens. These games can be played in and out of the classroom. The charts and posters will be displayed in class and outside in the hallways.
