First graders have changed since I started teaching thirteen years ago. Students come to school already technologically-savvy and get bored very easily if not kept busy. Help me make learning fun and exciting for my first graders through the incorporation of Kindle Fire tablets.
My first graders attend a public charter school in South Carolina.
The class consists of twenty-four first graders from many different backgrounds. I teach very enthusiastic learners who love technology. Unfortunately, our classroom is only equipped with one teacher computer, a projector and several mp3 players. Students visit the computer lab once a week. My very social first graders also love to work together when learning.
My Project
I am requesting three Kindle Fire tablets with cases to enhance learning in my first grade classroom. The learning possibilities for using tablets in all areas of the curriculum are endless. Through e-reader apps my students will have access to a plethora of books on their individual reading levels. Voice recording apps will allow students to record themselves reading and set goals for improving fluency. The tablets will also be used to research science and social studies concepts. Students will create digital projects to show learning in all curriculum areas. I will be able to create and display documents (such as flashcards and anchor charts) to help students review concepts that have been taught. I know my first graders will enjoy sharpening addition and subtraction skills by playing fun math games on the tablets.
The Kindle Fire tablets will help provide another way for me to make learning fun and exciting for my first graders.
When using the tablets they will have the world in their little hands.
