My Students

My middle school students are caring, curious, creative, and yes, sometimes comedians. We are not an affluent community. Covid again has brought additional deeper financial hardships to our families, community, and as a result, our school budget. Despite the real-life challenges many are facing daily, my students and their families are still involved in school life, sports, and clubs. I believe we are better armed to deal with social distancing and can minimize quarantine time this year. We mostly faced facing last year, with students in pods and teachers pushing into classes to keep movement in hallways at a minimum. This year, we will continue masking & sanitizing while planning a more normal in-school experience with students able to travel to Exploratory Classes!

My students are working on developing skills and mindsets that will help them to be successful in life, to be ready to take on whatever life throws their way.

I have noticed since introducing 3D design and printing, that my students are listening to feedback and eagerly going back to their design to adjust and improve their project. Between our EV3 robots and 3D designing and printing, grit and persistence are becoming the norm!

My Project

Adding the Tello Drone to my STEM-Themed project-based classes will further engage students in an exciting new way. Students will continue to grow their coding and collaboration skills while enriching their imagination and potentially develop a curiosity in a developing career path. Coding the Tello will be yet another way students will continue to develop a growth mindset mentality, as most assuredly, the teams will have to debug algorithms in order to have a successful flight. I will be giving my students multiple challenges such as: calculate the time and distance of the drone's flight, fly through an obstacle course, and take photos of designated areas.

My Drone goal is to continue to spark student interest in STEM fields and to give them more opportunities for team building, usage of critical thinking for problem-solving while they definitely practice and grow coordination and safety skills.
