I love my job and I feel very blessed to teach some of the most awesome first graders! My students come from many different cultural backgrounds and face many challenges in and out of the classroom but they all know one thing; that Mrs. S loves and cares about them.
Our classroom is a busy, yet happy place where students can learn while feeling safe.
If you were to walk into my classroom, you would not hear silence. You would hear lots of chatter at stations where students are exchanging ideas and discussing the objectives they are learning about. You would find me sitting on the floor conversing with students and observing students who may need extra support.
My Project
After reading about the inspiring: Women in STEM Exploration, Innovation & Communication" I have been inspired to create a similar project for my first-grade students. We have recently learned about women in space and my students including the boys were so intrigued, especially discovering the Lego set.
Through this project, students will be inspired from the If/Then Collection as they learn about modern Women in STEM to further research Women in STEM pioneers who made history and paved the way for current and future Women in Stem - including themselves!
After learning about Jessica Cramp, students will be inspired to research Sylvia Earle, or after learning about Samantha Wynns be inspired to research Jane Goodall. I will use videos from the IF/When collection to introduce my students to the inspiring women then we will look further into them on YouTube.
