Help me give my students nonfiction texts on their level to take home to read each night!

My Students
Each day, first graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and develop problem-solving skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide literature, manipulatives, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.
Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers.
My Project
My students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and often lack the experiences and understanding of the world around them to make connections in texts. Research shows that exposing these students to more nonfiction texts can help them learn more about a wide variety of general topics, which in turn, helps them become better readers who can make inferences.
This project would give my students access to more nonfiction texts on their individual reading levels, which would help them learn about a wide variety of topics.
This general knowledge will then be applied when making inferences so that they comprehend more of what they read.
