This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Those were wise words from Confucius. My students would like to understand science concepts more readily and these hands-on materials will help them.

My fourth and fifth grade students are curious ones and would like to know why and how things happen.

They come from varied backgrounds but most of them are from low-income families that have a difficult time getting the basic necessities. They come to school to fill their stomachs with a free breakfast and lunch. They also come to fill their minds with knowledge and learning. Our school continues to strive to provide the best education possible despite the constant cutbacks and dwindling resources.

My Project

My students need a classroom water testing kit, weather tracker, and a human body activity kit. These materials will allow them to be exposed to several types of activities in the different science content areas. They will work in groups to perform the experiments and form interest based groups to conduct research in the topic that intrigues them the most. They will make observations, record their data, and write a report to analyze their findings. All of these activities will teach them how to conduct research and think critically about how science affects them and the world around them.

These science materials will engage my students and will inspire them to do further exploration in other academic areas.

They will develop a love for science and a lifetime of learning.
