Learning About the Beauty of Different Communities Through Diverse Literature

Help me give my students these beautiful multicultural books to help them enjoy reading and learn about the diversity in our school community and the world around them!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Albuck's classroom raised $798

My Project

These books will help my diverse population of learners learn more about themselves and the other students in their school community. I plan to use these books in our everyday learning community to help my students improve their English language skills in a fun and interactive way where they can enhance their vocabulary and also learn about the many cultures that make up our school and the world.

My students are an amazing group of English Language Learners that come from over 50 different cultures and speak many different languages.

They come to school each day highly motivated to improve their language skills so they can work to accomplish their goals of graduating high school, attending college or trade school and learning job skills so they can support themselves and their families.

I plan to use these books to build a more diverse library for my students so they can see and read about students like them. I want to help them to build up their self-confidence by showing them individuals that look like them and face many of the same challenges they have faced or may face in the future. I know that these books will be a wonderful asset to our classroom library. It will also help to enhance our current curriculum. I will also give them books that are colorful and interactive to help them stay engaged while they are practicing their reading and comprehension skills. The pictures will also help them to

make predictions about what comes next regardless of their reading level or their vocabulary background. They can also use these books to great examples of literature to help them create graphic novels of their own similar to what they have read about their own lives and experiences and goals for the future.
