The elementary school in which I teach art is an urban school with a very diverse student population.
Many students come from an underprivileged background.
Moreover, many students are from families that have recently immigrated to the United States from all over the globe, including many Asian countries and Eastern Europe countries. Art education is closely linked to almost everything that we as a nation say we need for our children and want from our schools. The creative arts help students’ academic achievement, social and emotional development, and civic engagement. The supplies for this project will provide additional materials that go beyond the limited state of Nevada's budget for art. These watercolors, papers, and markers can go a long way at a school such as the one in which I teach. The students will appreciate these supplies. They will allow my students to learn about the art and culture of Ancient Greece.
This project will allow students to expand their knowledge of Ancient Greece. The Ancient Greeks lived roughly 3,500 years ago, but their legacy shapes the world we live in today. The students will learn about the art, history, and culture of the Ancient Greeks. The students will create their own version of the Parthenon using paper. The Parthenon is the most famous example of Greek architecture. The Parthenon has influenced many modern American building including the White House and the Supreme Court. The students will also learn about the Greco-Persian Wars and Greek Mythology. They will create their own Greek warrior shields based on designs and mythology from Ancient Greece. Lastly, the students will learn about Greek democracy, and how it influenced modern American government. Upon completion of their artwork, students will exhibit their work in the school library and in some cases in the district art show. After that time, the students will take their artwork home. Throughout this project, the students will demonstrate design concepts and principles by using elements of art, such as line, shape, texture, and value.
This project will enable my students to explore the world of Ancient Greece and will expand the students’ understanding of art and art history.
The watercolors, paper, and markers will be used for this project and for many other projects throughout the year. I am sure the students will enjoy learning about Ancient Greece.
