My Students
From my first year at my school to now, I have seen immense growth with my students. They have pushed themselves to great places and I want to help them go further.
My students are most successful through visual and movement-based musical approaches.
We are a Dalcroze music classroom. We explore reading music, rhythm and pulse, pitch, phrasing, and patterns and textures through dance. We have been recently exploring ballet and urban dance and growing a consistent identity to our classroom.
My Project
My students need textbook materials to learn pitch. The Sing at First Sight book is powerful because it teaches our students solfege (do re mi fa sol) and has musical repertoire that is useful for the developing voice.
My students demonstrated their understanding of the head and chest voice this week.
They learned that they need to feel the sound in their cheeks and nasal areas when they sing. Now they need to begin learning how to interpret music with that instrument.
We will use this as our formal assessment as well. The students will take aural exams and create pitch graphs that will document their own personal melodies.
