Mrs. Roessler from Buffalo NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Learning About Ourselves and Others!

Help me give my students culturally relevant titles that reflect the diverse population in our classroom. As an educator, it is important to me, to give my students the opportunity to see themselves in books.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

In our classroom, there is a section of bulletin board that is dedicated to celebrating our classroom family, Team Roessler! Our classroom family is comprised of students from different cultures from across an urban setting. We are fortunate to be together in a culturally rich environment, where curiosity, taking chances and tolerance of other cultures are highly promoted.

My Project

Your donation will assist in filling the gaps in our classroom library and ensure that my students have regular access to culturally relevant titles.

My students need opportunities to read and enjoy books that can teach them about others, while seeing themselves represented.

Not only will students benefit from being immersed in their own culture, as well as others, they will reap the benefits of reading. They will be building their schema (background knowledge), increasing academic vocabulary and honing in on comprehension skills. My students will also have an increased opportunity to make text to text, text to self and text to world connections.
