All of my students are English language learners. This means that their first language is a language other then English and are still in the process of improving their English skills.
Many of my students come from low-income households or are even homeless.
The school which they attend is a Title I School that has free breakfast and lunch for every student. With them being from low income, many of their parents work 2-4 jobs to make ends meet which means they don't have the ability to read with their parents sometimes.
My Project
My class is a set of 29 students who are all ELL's and different faiths. Number the Stars is a book that will allow them to connect with someone who has a struggling battle happening within their life that wasn't caused by them but caused by what they believed in and the dislike from others. This book allows them to learn that they aren't the only one's who have struggles put on them in their lives from others but so do other people.
Helps them to learn empathy.
My students struggle with learning or dealing with empathy and putting themselves in someone else's shoes. This book will help them with empathy.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
