I teach in a K-5 elementary building. Our students are inquisitive and ask thought-provoking questions with supportive parents. Typically most students who enroll in kindergarten spend their entire elementary career within our school. We are a school that prides itself on PBIS implementation and the home-school relationship. My school has also recently implemented AVID, which places emphasis on college and career readiness.
All of these support systems allow students to feel supported and more willing to learn.
We are raising lifelong learners at my school!
My Project
Students need to be exposed to (and made aware of) books centering around diversity. Some of the best conversations I have with students occur during small group time and/or our class read aloud, so I am looking to add to my book collections.
All of these books focus on diversity and acceptance.
With these books, students will learn about different struggles people face (race, living in a new country, learning struggles), allowing them not only to possibly relate to some of the characters, but learn about accepting everyone.
These books will not only make my students stronger readers but better people all around.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
