This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What do children know about their own culture? Every day my students learn to share many cultures through play, exploring music, clothing, food, celebrations, games, and dramatic play. However, they need additional items that will allow them to explore different customs and traditions.
I teach preschool in a high poverty school.
Most of my students come from Hispanic and African American families. Despite their economic circumstances, they come to school ready to learn and to discover something new every day. Having a multicultural classroom environment will help them recognize differences and similarities among all people and it will boost their self-esteem as well.
My Project
I'm requesting multicultural materials like blocks, log builders, soft and safe families, community workers, and multicultural puppets to encourage cooperative social skills among my students. This month we are celebrating Black history month, and I think it is a great opportunity for my students to learn not only about their own culture but to learn about other cultures without making judgments. Growing up with this attitude of acceptance and respect will help them become better citizens in the future.
Integrating multicultural resources and materials in my classroom will help my students learn about diversity, and they will feel more confident about themselves and their culture.
Please help me create a positive environment where every child feels welcomed and appreciated.
