Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 3rd grade teacher at a Title I, K-8 span school. Majority of our students participate in the free breakfast, lunch, and supper program. We have a tight-knit community of teachers, staff, parents and local neighborhood families that believe in the importance of education. Our school's mission is to provide a world-class education for all students by ensuring a safe, nurturing, and collaborative student-centered environment that fosters student achievement, values effort, and promotes social justice. My 24 students are energetic, eager to learn and look at each day as a day to learn something new.

My Project

My student's favorite time of the day is when we gather together as a class for a read aloud. Throughout the year we revisit our read aloud books. We may refer to them to recognize characters traits. Sometimes we will discuss the author's craft and use it as an example for writing. Other times they are used to teach a lessons about kindness or a mindset. Sometimes it's just for fun.

At any age, it is so important for students to find books that have relatable characters.

It is also important to see characters that may not be like them at all, but allows for us to celebrate the unique world around us. This project will insure my students are exposed to reading books that are more diverse and inclusive.
