Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students make us smile every minute of the day. Whether it is because they just said their first successful sentence in English or have shared their feelings in our daily social-emotional circle. We work with a diverse group of very special children. Each one is unique in his/her own way. Our classroom is combined 6th-8th grade students who travel through a continuous war zone to come to school every day eager to learn. They are a diverse population, that face many challenges such as special needs, social-emotional trauma, along with being the first in their family to have a formal education, yet they are survivors who refuse to let these obstacles get in their way.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are books about Jewish, Asian and African American heritage and traditions.
My students come from many multicultural backgrounds but rarely get a chance to leave the neighborhood to learn more about their heritage and traditions.
The multicultural units will involve studying Jewish, Asian and African american heritage. We will be reading a whole class novels including "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and "Grandfather's Journey" along with other stories to gain an understanding of their heritage and traditions.
Students will then use classroom laptops to research more into the heritage and print out information to display on poster board. We will present our findings to our classmates and celebrate with an in class celebration!
