Learning about Birds through Watercolor Painting

My students need watercolor paper, paint and palettes so they can study birds and apply their observations to detail drawings and watercolor.

My Students

Do you remember how much you enjoyed art in school? Sadly, art education is almost nonexistent and with budget cuts, schools cannot afford art supplies.

My students are enthusiastic fourth and fifth graders in a self-contained highly capable program.

They are extremely intelligent and creative. Thanks to Donors Choose, we will be investigating birds in an upcoming multidisciplinary unit. The class will be observing local birds with binoculars, identifying birds by their song and reading about them with a collection of outstanding nonfiction books. I now want to add art to this science unit.

My Project

My students this year are especially gifted in art. I want to encourage their talent by giving them a series of watercolor lessons that focus on birds. I myself am a watercolor painter and can easily provide these lessons, but I need the basic supplies. Your donation will provide watercolor paper, tubes of paint and 15 palettes so my students can be wildlife artists.

With budget cuts, we have no supplies for art.

With your donation, I can add art back into the curriculum and encourage children to respect the animals that live in our environment.
