By receiving your kind and generous donations I was able to purchase items to Create a calm and organized learning environment for our youngest learners. It is important to help balance our busy and technology-filled world today. We now have routines in place, using the magnetic file organizers, storage bags, and wooden peg hooks. The students now can get or put aways the items they use or need without having to either ask where things go or to wait for my help. I was also able to bring the calmness of the outdoors and nature inside, by using the natural-looking decor and accessories. One of the favorite items that made a huge impact was putting the faux wood grain contact paper on our metal exterior door. The exterior door is one of the first things you walk in and see as you enter our classroom. After 25 plus years the door had seen better days and had lots of remnants of old posters, tape, etc. so covering it with this contact paper made such a huge impact! Now our door looks like a well-loved wooden door adding a calmness and natural element into our class. I also was able to bridge our indoor and outdoor learning environments with our woodland animal bulletin board to post our seasonal learning experiences for parents to see as well as incorporating faux ivy on our pallet house to create a cozy space to read or work in the outdoors. The kids had a lot of fun weaving the strand through the wood slats which also helped with special awareness, teamwork, and fine motor The students were so excited to see the ABC Yoga poster and book added to our classroom calm area. Now they can independently go to this area and use a variety of yoga poses to self-regulate while also practicing letter identification. We also have begun using the zones of regulation poster for the kids to check in daily. It is so exciting to see them start to be able to name their feelings and decide what they need to be a kind and courteous learning. Some may need to go get one of our new woodland animal stuffies and sit in a quiet space to calm down, others may just need to go into our ivy covered \"pallet\" house outside to self-regulate while in nature, but most just need an encouraging smile in our calm and organize space to feel empowered to start their days learning It has been so rewarding seeing how these simple changes and additions to my class has created a calm and organized environment that kids feel welcome and happy to be at school while giving them problem solving strategies and independence.\r\nThanks again, the items I received helped to create a calm and organized learning environment where these youngest learners are thriving.","fullyFundedDate":1729528923853,"projectUrl":"project/calm-and-organized-learning-environment/8617177/","projectTitle":"Calm and Organized Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Northstrom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2660938_orig.jpg?crop=3012,3011,x0,y50&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1592251066909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mnorthstrom"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54469","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":448,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":12,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.6,"schoolId":54469,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Voyager Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Voyager Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/peninsula-school-district-401/voyager-elementary-school/54469"}
