Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I currently serve as a Future Ready Librarian at a bilingual Title I school. We have 730+ students, ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade, with over 90% coming from low-income backgrounds. One of my library program goals is to continue to provide activities which integrate the 4C’s assessment strategies through STEM lessons paired with books. Books and STEM projects promote teaching and learning systems by focusing on the four critical areas of Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.
My students are curious, eager learners who need to build their Future-Ready skillsets through a wide variety of STEM books and hands-on, Lego activities.
My students need access to books about animals and Lego sets. These project resources can be used for a wide variety of STEM activities that will help my students effectively gain skills in a fun and educational manner, while also offering collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving opportunities. Since the majority of my students are English Language Learners, they especially need access to books in a variety of reading levels that will encourage their love of reading and increase their literacy rates.
Teachers will be able to use these resources to create engaging, standards-based STEM/STEAM learning experiences that seamlessly integrate science, technology, engineering, and math into their classroom lessons.
Students will be able to create a project while finding a solution to real world problems. At its core, STEM projects are project-based learning exercises. Students love opportunities where they can create with Legos to demonstrate their learning. My students need supplies that provide access to books, activities, opportunities to explore and create, which will strengthen their critical thinking skills. My students love learning about animals, and creating with Legos will help extend their love of learning.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
