I teach a class designed for students with severe behavioral needs, with no two days ever alike. This is not without its challenges, yet each day allows my students new opportunities to learn and grow. My class is a bundle of excited energy that houses a deep desire to learn. Learn they will! My students are amazingly awesome students, from third to fifth grade in a self-contained special education classroom that promotes inclusions whenever possible.
They are fun and energetic.
They are truly like any other student, each with their own hopes and dreams. Each one has their own unique personality, and together we make up an awe-inspiring class that has truly turned our school into something more. My students are in a richly supportive school environment that promotes learning as well as caring for the larger community. The culture of our school has helped to shape my students lives for the better. My students have seriously thrived in this environment and as a result they have developed a deep sense of belonging within the community of our school. My students are creative, inspiring and delightful. Together, my students have created a special community of learning.
My Project
I teach a class designed for students with severe behavioral needs, with no two days ever alike. This is not without its challenges, yet each day allows my students new opportunities to learn and grow. My class is a bundle of excited energy that houses a deep desire to learn. Learn they will! My students are amazingly awesome students, from third through fifth grade in a self-contained special education classroom that promotes inclusions whenever possible. My students need a calming environment, especially in moments of frustration. Light filters and noise reduction head phones would afford my students with a less stimulating environment and assist in keeping their minds and body calm.
My students are hands on learners who love learning in creative ways.
They need literacy and math games that will engage them in the learning process. Games provide so much more than just plain ole fun, games assist in brain development. Students learn through the process of playing games. They learn new concepts or different strategies, they also build skills while practicing vocabulary or mathematical skills, and games also help students make connections while forming positive memories of the learning process. Most importantly, games are fun, engaging, and build positive social skills that cannot be replicated without authentic natural experiences. Storage bins and caddies would equally be a blessing to my students as they learn about the art of organizing and taking care of classroom material. My students are also in need of an individually defined space, to provide them with comfort and security as they work through difficult moments, while also providing them with a well-defined space to hold class meetings in. An area rug, would provide them with such a space.
