Our school is just that, a community. It houses close to 1300 students who all have unique and amazing stories to tell. Immigrants, refugees, and family struggles, these are just a few. As a community school, we provide more than just an education for our students. Because we have such a large low-income population 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and an after school meal. In addition, we have a large food pantry to supply students with food to take home. Not to mention we have an amazing volunteer program that helps clothe our students and members within our community. On a yearly basis, close to 1200 individuals are recipients of these donations. Healthcare services are also provided to our students.
My students come from all walks of life.
Forty percent of them are English Language Learners. Regardless of their daily challenges, they come to class with a smile on their face and eagerness to learn. In addition to overcoming many personal obstacles, my students also have the challenge of learning in an open classroom. Having no walls can be problematic at times, but their willingness to learn is second to none.
My Project
This year, the use of technology will play an essential role in my students' success rate. Since we are learning remotely, it is imperative that I have access to a new, high functioning computer to ensure that my students' needs are met. A new laptop would aide and facilitate the sharing of multimedia presentations and other interactive materials to students.
Incorporating new technology in my virtual classroom will allow me to provide my students with the best learning opportunities possible.
A new laptop will prevent a lag time in live teaching sessions, in turn affording all students the ability to be successful.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
