My Students
The students that we work with are students that are from low-income families that want to learn. Some have been impacted by having a parent with Coronavirus and the lose of jobs, others have been no access to a computer that they can use because older siblings have to use it daily or simply due to lack of finances to purchase one for the younger sibling to use. One of my students was displaced from their home due to a fire and loss many items that were needed to participate in the program. I have had to come out of pocket for tablets, ink, school materials and coats for a few of my students. The pandemic has affected us all in many ways. I recently purchased art supplies, disposable mask, books and a printer because our building received flooding that caused damage to materials that we would have given to the children. We send home weekly materials to each child so that the families dont have to add to already difficult times. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
My Project
Each week, the materials for art projects, hands-on learning, and family activities are counted out and delivered by a teacher to the student's homes so that they have the necessary supplies on hand to use during our daily zoom lessons. For example, we send the children construction paper, glue, and crayons for art projects. The children are given cubix or counting chips to use when we are performing the hands-on math activities that require them to count items or use them to create a shape. We use the dry-erase boards to practice our letter of the week or writing our names. We also use the pencils and lined paper to write stories or trace letters, shapes, names and scribbling. The children use the lacing materials to improve their fine motor skills and the alphabets for letter recognition.
Because we offer hands-on, interactive learning it is essential that the students have the required materials to participate.
Having these items in front of them allows them to opportunity to better learn and retain the lessons.
