Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is filled with students who invent their own games, look out for each other, and who are learning to keep trying even when they face obstacles. All are English-language learners and most come from poverty backgrounds. Most of my students have reading and writing challenges, and often lack confidence in English, especially as they are still developing language skills.

Creating a safe, inclusive environment where students can take risks, grow, and communicate ideas is one of my primary objectives.

In learning English, the more they practice, the quicker they will grow and the faster they will develop proficiency.

My Project

As my students learn English, I want them to explore electricity and create inventions with LittleBits, develop fine motor and vocabulary with Osmo, and extend green screen projects by using green straws as prop-holders in their storytelling.

These materials will help us have hands-on experiences while they develop English, critical thinking, and communication skills while they learn and play.

With LittleBits, they can make their dream inventions come true. They might create the most incredible amusement park ride or an early detection system for tornados. As students work together, they create complex circuits and giggle through trial and error to improve their inventions.

With Osmo, students build fine motor skills while they learn letters, words, vocabulary, and math. For some of the games, their drawings become part of the story, almost by magic. They are so excited and proud to see their drawings incorporated into the games!

The green straws, as simple as they might seem, allow us to add props to our green screen projects. The green color becomes invisible in the app when we use a green background, so students can create characters and add extra elements in the videos they create.

Thank you for adding fun learning to our classroom this year!
