My Students
The thing that makes each and every student of mine special, is that they come from different ethnic backgrounds from the pacific islands. This is an extremely special situation because many students learn English as their second language. In addition, in Hawaii, many students speak "pidgin" which is a dialect of English. This makes learning new language more challenging because of grammatical issues and a lack of vocabulary. My students continuously work hard to straddle over their struggles through the learning process and their efforts should not go unrecognized.
My students have expressed that leaning would be more engaging and entertaining if more technology was used in class.
Utilizing mobile technologies, media and traditional text appeals to larger group of learners. 4 students mentioned that they have never played Jeopardy as a study guide technique before, and I explained that there are interactive games like Kahoot to keep the learning fun and engaging.
As a teacher at my alma mater, its painful to see my students struggle with the learning process. Additionally, living in the tropics and learning in classroom with broken fans and no air conditioning makes teaching and learning feel like a chore, rather than child's play.
My Project
The materials from this project will make the learning environment for my students feel comfortable, interactive and organized.
Individual whiteboards will substitute for the lack of technology in the classroom although we are moving toward a digital world.
A file folder and printer will allow each period to have a designated spot to turn in work while allowing students to meet assignment deadlines. They will be able to think and respond through writing on whiteboards and participate in diversified lessons.
These materials are the utmost importance to help my students become organized, as it is conducive to effective learning and growing.
