My Project
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our students have been impacted academically in extreme measures. Due to this, students are varying greatly in levels on both math and reading. In my classroom, I want to use the various book sets for quality read-alouds. It is critical for students to listen to reading and have a useful source for word identification while they are following along. The multiple mathematic-fictional reading materials will be used to assist in the understanding of different mathematical topics. The snap blocks will assist in helping my IEP students with their counting and math fact skills, and the geometric nets will assist in differentiating learning, as well as helping students with visual learning and seeing differences among 2D and 3D shapes. COVID-19 was also detrimental to the emotional and creative state of various students. Many of my students get overwhelmed easily, overheating in the process, and need a fan to help cool off. In my classroom, I would like all students to feel that sense of security. It is also critical for my students to feel cared for and see their importance. Due to this, the STAPLES chair will be used for a classroom management strategy. I have a helper in the classroom every week who assists me in things I would need help on. The student who is fulfilling the role of the teacher’s assistant for the week would have their own chair to sit in. This will allow them to feel a sense of responsibility and show other students who they need to go to when making corrections on group assignments or asking one of their “three before me” people. I would also like for my students to have a creative outlet, which will be used through projects using play-doh, tape, sticky notes, and markers.
