Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inner city youth, at a turn around school, who have a disability. Many of my students struggle with the socio-economic struggles that occur in the city, and have various traumas or struggling home life. My students are bright and have all the potential and are motivated to succeed. Their drive, resolve, respect and passion are only a few of the character traits my students have. Additionally, my school has a social emotional behavioral program that we are trying to revamp. These students have various barriers they need to overcome and it is our job to help.
My Project
Working in an urban school district as a special education teacher has allowed me to see the inequity in the educational system. Next year I will take on a larger roll to continue to improve the success of students with a disability. These materials will go to support the classroom to provide student comfort in learning, workbooks and tasks that meet their level, informative texts to help me grow as an educator, and books to promote reading within and outside the classroom. My students will continue to grow as they use these materials to achieve long term success as students and members of the community.
