Pickleball is now the fastest growing sport in the nation for the fifth consecutive year, with 48.4 million US adults and teenagers having played at least one game in the last 12 months, according to the Association of Pickleball Professionals.
I would like to introduce the sport of pickleball to our after school Uplink program.
The Uplink program provides a safe place after school for our sixth-eighth graders here at IIS located in Wailuku, Hawaii. The program is a combination of academic help and fun programs.
Pickleball is a lifetime sport that can be played by people of all ages and ability levels. It is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong using a plastic ball with holes. The rules are relatively simple, making it a good introductory sport. We currently do not have any pickleball equipment such as nets, paddles and balls. A donation to our after school program could make a positive difference in our students' lives. The students will not only learn about a sport but will also learn teambuilding skills, the benefits of physical activity and better social and mental skills.
