My students need headphones to complete their reading intervention program. Having the headphones allows them to listen to stories and directions read aloud to them.
My students are all identified as students with Special Needs or English as a Second Language/ English Language Learners. I teach smaller class sizes so these students can get the one-on-one attention they need. The majority of my students are low-income students and my school is also a Title 1 school as well.
Not only do I teach Learning Support English classes and Reading Intervention classes, to students with special needs and ESL/ELL needs, but I am a case manager to additional students as well.
Every day, I work with my 26 students on other class work and projects from out in the regular education classrooms. I modify curriculum and assessments. I create and implement different learning techniques and study strategies for these students to use out in their other classes.
My students benefit from different types of learning styles that require different materials and technology items that are not available to me through my school.
My Project
In the READ 180 program, students listen to short videos, audio books, and their own recordings help with reading comprehension, and effective reading skills. Many students cannot afford headphones, which interferes with them successfully completing the program. When students begin the READ 180 program, they watch and listen to a short video that is referencing what their computer segment is above, student then move onto a series of different work assignments.
Every assignment in the READ 180 program requires the student to listen to something.
The assignments vary from spelling, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression.
Without headphones the students are unfortunately able to access all the audio support given to them.
