My Students
My first grade class is a group of nineteen energetic children who love to learn all that they can, whenever and wherever they can. My students are highly inquisitive and eager to learn each and everyday. They love coming to school and stepping into the world of learning where they get to "be all they can be" and strengthen their love of learning through literacy, math, science, social studies, technology, agriculture and much more. We are a Title One school in a small, rural community, with a very high poverty rate; even so, our staff and families want the very best for our students and strive to give them the very best education that we can. Ours is a tight-knit community with a consistent level of parent and community involvement.
My Project
In first grade, WE LOVE BOOKS and WE LOVE TO READ! We love to read books and we love to listen to people while they read books to us! We have been blessed with many, many different books that have an accompanying CD, but at this time, we do not have a classroom listening center to utilize these books on CD. We would love to be able to place a CD in a portable CD player, put on our headphones and listen to a story. We are also in need of headphones to use with our Chromebooks and with our classroom iPad. On those chromebooks and iPad, we have access to both Epic Books and Tumble Books. This is much like having a virtual classroom library where we can choose from thousands of book titles and read and interact with them. We also have access to a variety of literacy programs and apps on these devices, but we need headphones to utilize with these devices, more independently and more quietly within our classroom. We know that if given these portable cd players and headphones, we would be able to grow even more in our reading and in our mastery of literacy skills.
