This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Sensory Play is a hands-on learning strategy that requires learners to use their senses (sight, sounds, smell, hearing, taste, etc) to explore, create, and investigate.
My classroom setting provides services to students whose educational and developmental needs require additional adult support to access the curriculum.
My little learners are on different ends of the spectrum and for most, their learning disabilities vary. As such, I would like to use sensory play to help them with cognitive, language and emotional development as well as social and motor skills.
The beads, lacing cards, fidget toys, play dough, and other tools I have picked will help me develop and provide sensory play activities that will not only support their academic skills but might also enhance memory and help develop the ability to focus and block out distraction which is not an easy skill for my K/1st grade class.
My ultimate goal is to use sensory play while reinforcing academic skills. I strongly believe in Learning through Play at any age and whether our scholars are on the general education side or special education side. I want my students to think of school/my classroom as a fun and relaxing environment to learn different skills.
