My Students

Our school is moving forward in the right direction! We've implemented a school-wide program (PBIS) that rewards those who are demonstrating appropriate behaviors. What reward are students most excited to work for? After surveying the students, they've spoken unanimously: a safe playground!

Many of our students face numerous challenges in life, which can translate into difficult behaviors during the school day.

These difficult behaviors often have an adverse affect on individual and school-wide achievement. Over the last few years, our school has shown improvements in reducing these negative behaviors and suspensions, all based on the implementation of a program called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which focuses on rewarding those who are demonstrating appropriate behaviors with a variety of incentives, both tangible and intangible. We've recognized the potential for this program to aid in transforming our school into one of the finest in the district, however, as is the case in most urban districts, we struggle to obtain funding that supports such initiatives.

My Project

According to Miracle (2020) The Emotional, Social, Mental, and Physical Benefits. Increased self-esteem, improved collaboration skills, enhanced critical thinking skills, and a strengthened immune system are just some of the high-level benefits children gain by being able to play. Each year, school districts, especially in Michigan, juggle how to pay for teacher pensions, medical expenses of their employees, and volatile enrollment while providing their students with the necessary tools to be successful in the classroom. Despite technological advances in every major profession, education remains a capital-intensive profession that requires large sums of money to operate therefore requiring a school district to spend a majority of its budget on labor. Sadly, one of most aspects of school fails to receive funding for one of school most important learning activities........play. Please help our school.
