Help me give my students hands-on activities and games such as Monopoly Jr., Osmo Pizza Co Game, and Monopoly Junior Electronic Banking games that will teach them the importance of spending money wisely.
I teach third grade in a small town in Arkansas. Most of my students live below the poverty line. Most of my students eat a free breakfast and lunch every day. I would like to help my students develop a better understanding of finances and the value of a dollar. These games, both board games and online games, will help students understand the concept of money.
Please help us learn how money works in today's world.
Children are used to seeing cards used instead of money and this hinders their understanding of basic money skills.
My Project
Children learn by playing. Playing games is not only fun but is a great way for children to learn. My students love board games. I have requested three Monopoly games. We can play these in centers. The students will each get turns to be the banker and work with the money, but each player also has to spend their money wisely so that they do not run out. These board games will also strengthen math skills for all students. They will also assist in teaching turn taking skills while building a foundation for financial literacy. I have also requested two Pizza Company games for an Osmo. An Osmo is an electronic device that will work on my classroom iPad. These games allow the students to manage the money of a pizza restaurant. It is a great, hands-on learning experience. I hope to change out the different resources in centers so that students are always learning the basics of finances.
Managing money is an important life skill all students need to have to be successful in our world today.
My hope is for all the resources to assist me in building a foundation for financial literacy. My students need to be exposed to the importance of money and spending it wisely. In our changing world, children do not always see money as money, rather as a card or electronic account stored on a computer. These games, board games as well as electronic games, can be used help my students become money smart.
