This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ever sat down on a hard wood floor for more than 3 minutes? It's not so comfy down there! Here in our 2nd grade class, we have nothing to sit on but an old dirty wooden floor. This makes for lots of fidgeting and squirmy kids!

My 2nd grade students are low-income, inner city, English language learners.

Our school receives 100% free lunch based on student poverty statistics. We are located in an inner city urban school district which receives very little extra funding for things like classroom furniture.

My Project

With a new classroom carpet, sitting on the floor to learn will be much more comfortable for the students. When I picture the perfect 2nd grade classroom in my head, there is always a welcoming and comfortable place to sit. This rug in particular will not only give the students a great place to sit, but will also teach them the continents of the world on a daily basis. This is a skill this is often over looked, but is a large pat of the 2nd grade social studies curriculum. It will be a great reinforcement on a daily basis!
