Learn Math and Science Through Drawing and Painting Nature

Help me give my students a class pack of 240 Crayola assorted watercolor pencils, two school Fabriano Studio watercolor paper, 20 Kuretake Bimoji Fude pens, 48 packs of colored pencils, 30 sketching pencils, and a book on nature drawing.

My Project

This project was inspired by the work of John Muir Laws, an artist and naturalist, who connects math and science to nature and art. This art project encourages students to see symmetry, patterns, and shapes naturally occurring in the mountains, trees, clouds, sun, flowers, and rocks.

The supplies will bring out the artistic talent in our students as they sketch and paint their observations in their nature journal throughout the summer enrichment program.

With the time spent in nature, students will build a connection to their environment and its beauty. Many will feel an appreciation and a sense of responsibility to protect the beauty that surrounds them. In the years to come, some will become advocates and stewards of the land so future generations can enjoy nature.

When the students' art is shared with friends, family members, and the community, they will surely put smiles on many peopleʻs faces.
