The arts are becoming less visible in our public schools without the understanding of how much the arts can contribute to a child's academic growth.
I teach in a Title I public elementary school in a public Pre-Kindergarten program in which students enter the program demonstrating a significant need in their development.
Additionally, I serve a diverse population of students with varying levels of English language proficiency.
My Project
My students will accomplish many of their yearlong goals through the use of the requested materials. One area of development will occur as they begin to establish themselves as 21st century learners developing an understanding of varying cultures. Additionally, students will increase literacy skills through the dramatic arts. I am requesting a variety of multicultural clothing items in addition to themed literacy components to promote learning through drama.
My students begin the school year qualifying for the public program by demonstrating a developmental need.
They are already considered to be below where they should be for their age. Providing the requested materials will support my students learning through fun engaging activities to ensure they begin kindergarten on the same developmental level as their peers.
