My students are active 6th graders with a desire to learn. Our community is involved with their student's education by supporting my efforts and the educational process. My students are amazing. Every day they come to school ready to learn. They find excitement in learning with their class friends regardless of the topic.
I strive to develop a love of learning.
I want school to be a place my students look forward to coming to every day. I provide opportunities for them to stretch their imagination and challenge themselves. They each have unique talents and intelligence that contribute to the class as a whole.
My Project
With the National Geographic Atlas, a student will be able to learn how to read a map using the charts, graphs, words, and other data to gather needed information about a specific area. This is an important skill not only during school years, but for future success in determining vacation areas or learning about a specific destination.
Students need to be able to understand legends, keys, and symbols found on a map.
I will connect the use of these depictions on an atlas in social studies and science learning. Students can independently use them as a primary resource as they gather data and make determinations about an area or fulfill an assignment. Information about climate and weather are used to connect to science lessons.
It is important in sixth grade for students to identify and read an atlas where the countries of the world are located as they are known today. Our atlases are very outdated and I often correct maps to the entire group prior to beginning a task. It would be great to have correctly labeled countries with the names they are known by today to share with students.
