I would like to have a set of six Encarta software CD's for my classroom of 18 fifth graders. Our classroom is a FEMA provided trailer now after Hurricane Katrina destroyed our school. In our new classroom, there are six laptops. After consulting with the head of the technology department, six separate CD's with the Encarta software would work best for the computer network. The software will be used by the student just like a set of encyclopedias. Each student will have many opportunities to research a variety of topics on the computers using Encarta. Encarta also provides students with many learning games involving geography, social studies, and science. Children can have visual and auditory learning experiences from short videos and sound clips. One project in particular we will work on in the coming months is to focus on the water and land biomes of the world. My students will use both the internet and Encarta to research their chosen biome.
