While I am meeting with small groups for reading instruction, the rest of my students need to be reading books at their independent reading levels. A colleague shared with me the success she has found with LeapFrog TAG books in her classroom. I would love to use them in my classroom as well.
My students are a challenging group for me this year in that we have an enormous range in reading abilities.
We have students who are learning the alphabet and sight words. We also have students who are able to comprehend and discuss books two grade levels ahead. About one third of my class is learning English as a second language. My students, regardless of ability, LOVE books and are eager to engage in stories. They love being read to, reading together with each other, and reading on their own. They like talking about books and are continuing to get to know authors and series characters. My goal is to be able to provide everyone with enough reading materials, appropriate to individual levels and accessible independently, so that quality reading time may continue even while I am working with small reading groups and am not available to attend to individuals.
My Project
LeapFrog's TAG books, which are books that students may read with a special TAG wand, help students read. It's like having someone there with the student...when I can't be! Other teachers at my school have found great success using these wands and books. I would like to make them accessible to my students as well. I have ordered enough wands for a small group to use during our centers time and an assortment of books so that there will be something for everyone.
Teaching all students to read is such an important goal in the primary grades.
Please help fund this request! Your donation will provide enriching reading experiences during independent reading time for my students and will help me keep all students engaged when I am meeting with smaller groups for reading instruction.
