Do you remember what it was like to play games with classmates? My children get so excited when they have a new game to play.
The students in my class have ninety minutes of literacy instruction every day.
Literacy centers are an important part of the Balanced Literacy Program. The children need literacy games for centers to motivate them. The children need these center games to reinforce their literacy skills. Many of the children in my class are ELL children (English Language Learners). What better way to help ELL children learn than with fun, engaging hands on learning games. With the horrible budget cuts this year, there is no money for fun, engaging games for the students. My goal for all my students it to have a love for reading and become lifelong readers and writers.
My Project
My students will be able to use the literacy centers games to increase their knowledge of sight words, vocabulary words and reading comprehension skills. Once children have a high sight word vocabulary they have the basic foundation of reading. Since many of the students come from homes that speak other languages besides English, the children need to develop their vocabulary. These games will teach them new vocabulary words. Listening centers activities will also help the children to learn new words and hear the English language spoken correctly. These independent literacy centers games will also help the children with comprehending stories.
All students in my classroom will benefit from these motivating and engaging literacy centers.
I will be able to use these instructional materials in different ways across many reading and writing lessons. The children will also benefit from these games, because they will improve their social skills, by learning how to help one another and take turns. Help my children become lifelong readers!
