My Students

Do you remember how you learned to read? Chances are that throughout your journey into the world of literacy, you had someone helping you sound out the words, telling you what the "difficult" words were or reading to you out loud while you attentively listened.

I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles' low income housing complexes.

My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you can ever meet. They are smart enthusiastic learners who enjoy reading.

My Project

With the LeapFrog Tag readers, my students will have "someone" to guide them through reading when they are working in small or independent groups. As much as I would love to give every child individualized attention throughout the day, it is not possible. This system will help the students sound out words. My students love books. They can sit and look through books for long periods of time, however not all are able to read all the words independently. The tagging system will guide them through reading and help develop strong readers.

Every day after lunch, I read a book to my students.

During this time, I take my students to magical lands, where everything and anything is possible. During this time, all my students attentively listen and are focused on the content of the story. With the LeapFrog Tag reader and books my students will get a chance to go to these lands with greater ease when they are working independently.
