As a first year teacher, I have continuously worked to create a classroom library filled with a wide variety of book levels to meet the needs of students. Not only do I want to teach my students to read, I hope to inspire a passion for lifelong reading.
I teach reading to kindergarten, first, and second grades.
My students truly enjoy making meaning, reader's workshop, and independent reading in their "just right" books (not too hard, not too easy). They are eager to read, respond, share, and confer about their books. My students are working on building fluency and increasing comprehension. Most of all, they are gaining confidence as growing readers.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting for my students will enable them to have a greater variety of books to choose from. My students will be able to book shop for "just right books". Reading books on their level will help my students feel successful as readers. In addition, the timers will help with monitoring fluency, and the comfy seats will allow them to find a cozy reading spot in our classroom for independent reading.
