I teach a group of 19 kindergarteners that are excited about learning. Many of my students enter kindergarten with limited English and over half of my class receives free and reduced lunch. I believe that students learn best in an engaging, hands-on environment and I work hard to create an environment that makes students feel successful and want to learn.
Our class supply of big books is limited and we use these books everyday during shared reading. These books are wonderful because they have enlarged easy to read print that is repetitive. One big book is read everyday for a week. These books are critical in teaching reading strategy and skills. Then, after the big book is read several times it is placed in the big book station where students can practice what they have learned. These books are valuable resources for students learning.
In order to make this happen, my students need a variety of exciting big books and a rack. These books will be a motivating tool in teaching students the joys of reading.
I am grateful for any support that you can give me to help get these big books into the hands of eager readers. These books are an important part of our day. They motivate and enhance the process of learning to read.
