This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are kind, respectful young adults. Most of them have to work extra hard to overcome their learning challenges. My classroom is more than just a classroom. For my students, it is their homebase. They know they can come to me for help, a snack, or when they just need a break. In my classroom we learn more than numbers and math, more than prefixes and English. We are learning skills for the future, both academic and real life.
My Project
Many of my students struggle to stay seated during class. In a tradition chair, students don't have the ability to move during class. Instead they can become sleepy. Or students may lose focus and not stay seated because the have to be able to move. Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to move and learn at the same time. Part of engaging in learning is advocating for what a student needs to be successful. In my classroom we try different strategies and tools to find what we need to be successful.
