My students are wise beyond their years, energetic, creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to have some autonomy while learning. They come to school each day ready to explore and grow both emotionally and academically. Truly, they are my purpose for waking each day.
Our school is nestled in the Thomasville Heights community, which backs up to the Federal Penitentiary.
Many of our families struggle to find employment and opportunity due to high levels of poverty. Purpose Built Schools Atlanta has vowed to create positive changes to the community which will directly affect the school. The school has undergone renovations. However, new and flexible seating weren't included. We need low tables for sitting on the floor, tall tables for standing while learning, tables that allow collaboration via varied configurations, rolling chairs, bean bag chairs, bench seating, floor cushions, storage bins for learning materials and coats.
Choice equals high engagement!
Students with the wiggles and those who are easily distracted will love sitting on wobble chairs and wobble cushions as they learn.
My students often lean back onto the hind legs of their chairs during instruction. This creates an unsafe environment. With the requested wobble chairs, students will be able to make small movements while remaining alert as they learn.
A listening center and headphones will help students self-select and love reading books found on the classroom shelves.
This resource will allow up to four students to read and listen to the same text on their reading levels.
Thank you for donating funds to purchase safe/flexible seating, floor pads and a listening center with headphones as we lean into learning how to read.
