As a teacher in a high-poverty community I am faced with many obstacles. Students come from a variety of living situations and often lack the motivation to learn. COVID-19 has impacted learning in so many different ways. Whether it's separation anxiety from being home so long without peer interaction or it's lack of participation in online work, the students are feeling the weight of this pandemic. I have noticed if you allow the students the opportunity to showcase their work, they often find that drive to do better, work harder. They are determined to do their very best.
Leaders become great not because of their power but, because of their ability to empower others.
The students in my classroom all have different leadership roles, whether it's helping with the flag salute or a member of the Muscle Crew. They love having a responsibility that gives them a sense of importance. My students set individual and classroom goals and are determined to reach those goals. They don't let anything hold them back.
My items requested will help my students create and share their Leadership Notebook, which contains work samples, goals, and achievements, over the course of the year. This will allow my students the ability to show their families their progress from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. I find this helps motivate the students to make huge strides in their academic goals.
Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better.
The items needed for Leadership Notebooks allow students to self-reflect and think about their future. They can become more involved their academic goals. They can see their positive changes throughout the year. They can see if they need to work harder to show better results. These notebooks will encourage my students to become the leaders I know they can be.
