My students are first graders. They live in a large urban area, and a large number of students receive free and reduced-price lunch. They are such kind and determined kids.
My students are a group of very eager and excited learners.
They work hard, and look forward to coming to school each day. They are interested in EVERYTHING and want to learn as much about all that they can! I know they are looking forward to being able to interact with something new in the classroom!
My Project
Most of my students entered my classroom this year with a limited knowledge of letters and letter sounds. Together, we have worked hard to build on that knowledge and become great little readers. They have immersed themselves in our classroom library, and I am sad to say that they have made their way through all of the books that we have.
My students use books as a way to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Without regularly access to new texts, I worry that their growth will become limited.
New books in our classroom library will give my students an opportunity to interact with new texts. It will allow them to continue to stay excited about learning, and it will let them have the experience of "getting lost in a good book", which will hopefully encourage them to become lifelong readers.
