I love the wonder and joy that kindergarten students bring to a school environment! They are little, finding themselves, while at the same time trying to fit into a big world and find their path.
I have wanted to teach this age group now for sixteen years, and I think I have now finally found my path and my purpose, to reach these young learners and help them find their path.
I have really enjoyed getting to know my students this past month and I can't wait to see what they can accomplish.
My students are amazing and open to so many new experiences and opportunities. They have embraced their leadership potential and are working hard to push forward and sharpen their skills. We have come up with the phrase readers are leaders in our classroom as our mission statement, so our target is to sharpen our reading skills so we can be role models for others.
My Project
The classics that we remember reading as small children played a large role in our development, so why not pass our love of the classics onto our young learners and lead them down the path to confidence! These emergent readers will be used as a part of our 'Reading Workshop' in the study of 'STAR Books' to instill confidence in our developing readers and enrich our reading experience. We will be able to read these books independently, with our small groups, and with our reading partners over and over.
As a part of our path to leadership through the study of The Seven Habits of Happy Kids, we will begin with the classic 'The Little Red Hen.' In this classic tale, The Little Red Hen exemplifies all the leadership qualities that a leader possesses and reaps the good reward at the end.
Many of the classic characters and their tales can be tied to the seven habits, and it will be my goal to pass these qualities onto my students through the pages of classic literature.
