My Students

In this ever-changing academic landscape, my 2nd graders are more inquisitive than ever. Students in my room are constantly searching for and gaining knowledge through research and exploration. The opportunities for learning are endless, but lack of resources has somewhat hindered full exploration.

The students in my room are extremely diverse, with backgrounds and experiences from places like Sudan, Palestine, China, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Jamaica, and the list literally goes on and on!

Because of this extensive diversity, the students are constantly learning from each other, and of course teaching me, as well, about the customs and cultures of their families and friends. Our school is as underfunded as hundreds of other schools across the country, but is very different from many of these other schools, because of it's multicultural aspect. In addition to being underfunded, our school is one of the most populated in the area, so that funding is stretched thinner than it would be with a smaller amount of students. Regardless, my students are constantly yearning for knowledge and enjoy delving deeper into learning through multiple resources.

My Project

In our school, 2nd graders are essentially housed in a portable, "temporary" trailers. Naturally, there are hindrances to learning in such an environment, but you wouldn't know it if you observed my students engaging in multiple learning activities throughout the day! They are constantly questioning and searching for answers. Their inquiries are rapid and sometimes curious, but never trite or invalid. An LCD projector would provide the missing piece to the puzzle that is 2nd grade! With the projector hooked into my laptop, my students will be exposed to multiple resources through PowerPoint activities, Skype, and of course extensive use of the Internet to explore relevant websites, which will enhance our learning of science (currently weather and clouds), social studies (currently regions of the United States and types of landforms), as well as all other subjects! The world will truly be OUR oyster, as we become even more engaged in our surroundings!

An LCD projector would have an absolute immediate impact on my students.

Our world is so rapidly changing, and exposure is the key to a better understanding of these changes. The LCD projector will allow us to collaboratively partake in multimedia projects, delve deeper into various content areas, and overall enjoy new, hands-on, interactive learning experiences!
