My students love to help each other learn!
I teach 9th grade physics and AP Chemistry. The high school is a high-needs school in California. The school has a long history and recently has made great strides in improving its API score and the number of AP classes available to students.
Physics and Chemistry concepts can be described and taught in so many different methods. Many students are visual learners, and animations and videos help students grasp difficult science concepts. My classroom does not currently have a means for me to show computer animations or videos displaying science concepts. Additionally, my students give a lot of in-class presentations. Some of the students have constructed PowerPoint presentations, but have not had a way to present those files. Student centered learning is so powerful, and if students could help each other visually learn using current technology, they would take even greater ownership of their learning. There is no doubt that for our students to be successful in college they must be able to confidently use current technology to demonstrate learning.
The LCD projector will allow students to view new information clearly and in many different modes, such as animations and video. I will be able to project class notes neatly and brightly. The LCD projector will help my classes of 36 students clearly see any class notes or problems. Student presentations will come alive!
This year will be the first year an AP Chemistry class will be offered at the high school in many years. In order to ensure they are fully prepared for college, they need to have chemistry presented to them in as many modes as possible. Student presentations will improve dramatically with the projector.
The 9th grade physics class is also in need of the technology. In order to hook and excite students to pursue science in college and beyond, they need to have a good grasp of physics concepts. Video animations and real-world videos help solidify concepts.
